The story of the CSC Phoenix is well documented. Lauren Molinaro had split from her former club team, and with the help other some friends, was involved in forming a new club. They were able to entice Dave Nesbitt, the Wilde Lake boys coach, to guide the team.
Over the weekend, the Phoenix, just a few years old, capped their quick rise from nothing with a
4-1 victory over Calverton for the U18 title.
The Phoenix, as well as the other age group winners, advance to the regional tournament in Erie,
Pa.
Under-18
Samantha Meyers, a high school All-American selection, scored two goals and assisted on one as the CSC Phoenix defeated the Calverton Kickers, 4-1.
Shanna Ziegenfuss and Sarah Tollick also scored for the winners.
Phoenix replaces the Harford-based teams that had won the U15, U16 and U17 groups leading up
to this year.
Nesbitt has been one of the states most successful coaches, guiding his Wilde Lake program to six high school state titles and he even took a U19 boys team to the national championship.

Marissa Schuchats goal from 18 yards out in the 10th minute was enough to give SAC Magic a 1-0 victory over CSC Majestic, ending the Majestics two-year reign as champions.
The matchup, however, pitted two teams based in Columbia. It was the only final with two teams from the same county vying for the states highest honor.

The Bethesda Broncos powered past the BFC Thunderbolts, 5-0, for their fifth straight state title.
Linnea Lampe scored two goals while Leilani Ho, Val Roby and Amy Cooper each scored once.
Lezette Pearsall and Abby Ross split time in goal for the winners.
Under-15
The Bethesda Scorpions used a pair of first-half goals to finish the MSI Falcons, 2-0.
Anabel Jimenez and Joanna Lohman each scored as the Scorpions won their fifth state title in the past six years.
Lindsay Haywood, who helped Churchill win the Montgomery County high school championship, played in goal for the Scorpions.
Under-14
Audra Poulin made her presence felt for the MSI Falcons as she scored three goals to lead the Montgomery County team to its fifth state championship with a 4-1 win over the Columbia Fury.
Sundays game marked the fourth time in five years the two teams met in the state title game.
The Falcons have won the State Cup in their age group each year since 1993.
After falling behind 1-0, the Falcons responded with four straight goals, with the first three coming from Poulin. Beth Hendricks added the fourth goal.
Under-13
Noelle Keselica scored a crucial goal right before halftime, and the Bethesda Fury won its fourth straight state title with a 5-2 victory over Shakedowns Elite.
The victory also gave coach Brad Roos his 13th club state title - ironically enough this one came while this team was playing for the 13-year-old title.
|
I hope to continue with that, Roos jokingly said, inferring his 14th could come when this team plays in the U14 bracket next year.
Keselica and Jessica Holsey each scored twice and Missy Moore scored for the Fury.
The Shakedowns Elite scored first, but the Fury came back with three straight goals .
Under-12
Julie Napolitano scored twice in the first five minutes of the match, and the Bethesda Dragons defeated the BFC Flames, 2-1.
Napolitano scored in the 2nd minute and three minutes later converted a penalty kick. The Flames lone goal came in the final minute of play.
The Dragons were the states last U10 champs two years ago, and were bumped in the U12 round-robin last year by eventual champ, the Fury.
