Washington Soccer Net On-Line June 18, 1997
Going On-Line

One of the more frustrating aspects of producing a weekly publication is the simple fact that we can't fit everything into it as we, and our readers, would like. Like every publication, space and time dictate what we print, and too often we are forced to leave something out.

Last week, for example, we decided to hold off on running the US Women's National Team's win over Italy in the final of the US Women's Cup '97. Because the game was covered in several other publications (even though we compete with them, as soccer fans we're glad to see it), we thought the space was better utilized in other ways. Some readers disagreed, however, and let us know it.

That is one of the reasons we have Washington Soccer Net On-Line, our Internet version of your favorite soccer publication.

When it debuts as a subscriber service this fall, Washington Soccer Net On-Line will practically be a daily news publication. Each day, visitors will find something different about the local soccer community, whether it's about the big high school or club match, or summaries of recent college or professional matches. Instead of having to wait as much as several days to find out what happened, subscribers to Washington Soccer Net On-Line will be able to read about it almost immediately. That's the beauty of the Internet.

As someone who began his profession on a clunky typewrite, I certainly understand the hesitancy some readers may show toward the electronic version of the Washington Soccer Net. But believe me, once you see how Washington Soccer Net On-Line works, you'll wonder how you ever got along without it - much like the feeling you had when you first received the hard copy of Washington Soccer Net.

As a reminder, this is our last issue for the spring season. As always, best of luck to all of those youth teams traveling to wild, wonderful Erie, PA for regionals.
